Review after 6 years (purchase 2017): Beautiful, elegant and comfortable pen. Wrote very smoothly and the nib (medium) lends a satisfyingly thickish line and flex. The pen came with its filler and one cartridge (I used Edelsten ink from Pelikan). The overall look is exactly as pictured (you get a slightly brighter look in bright light)- mine has a slightly more brown tinge rather than brighter red (I have a similar ball pen from Waterman that is more reddish and brighter in light). That said this pen lends a quiet serene classic look which I love, an understated look with a prominent shaped gold nib. Good balance and overall feels lighter in hand than Cross Townsend Peacock. Issues: 1) It leaks through nib. Even after sending to Waterman service (which was not very satisfying as the job was both expensive and inconclusive). This was a surprise to me. I used quality inks. It is inconvenient to have reliably stained fingers alas when you like to use a good fountain pen. 2) The lacquering is much poorer than rivals’. My rollerball version (same process) is heavily flaked - see photos. Definitely thinner lacquering visible in these Waterman pens and I have Cross Pinnacle rollerballs and fountains of very much older and heavier use and they are in excellent shape, never having been sent for servicing and having many more “knocks” in similar use. I am sure Waterman will not replace this and anyway any good pen is of sentimental value, at this price too. This means I will be careful of such future purchases, which is regrettable. Waterman does make nice pens.

First of all, the pen I received was perfect in every way. The amber finish is really beautiful, the pen is light and comfortable to hold in the hand, and the nib on mine wrote smoothly and easily with just the right degree of wetness - I inked it with Diamine Nutcracker which was a pretty good match. Unfortunately, and somewhat to my surprise given the reviews which state the contrary, I found the medium nib just a touch too fine for my handwriting. A slightly broader line would have made it a no-brainer to keep but I (rather sadly) made the decision to return it to Amazon. It's gone back in as-new condition so someone will get a bargain in a Warehouse deal, since the price I originally paid was already competitive, and I wish its new owner much joy and many years of writing pleasure.

Beautiful looking pen. The colour is amazing, its sleek shape is gorgeous. Really nice to hold and use. Its not heavy but not too light. When it's writing at full flow it's a joy to use, but at times it stops and starts, which is annoying. I tend to wet a corner of the paper and scribble on that to get it going, but have to repeat this several times. Some days it writes perfectly, at full flow, other days its temperamental . . . I think it has a mind of its own. Lol Still very much worth it.

I wanted to treat myself to a really nice fountain pen and this ticked all of my boxes - not cheap, but a beautiful pen. 1. I ordered it with a medium nib - I wish I had ordered fine - the medium is a lot broader than I was expecting. 2. It has already been returned for repair twice, with the gold collar for the cap coming away from the cap and stuck in the body of the pen - the returns process is straightforward and free, but twice in less than two months? 3. The issue with the collar seems to be fine, but now the clip on the cap is loose - I am not sure I can be bothered returning a third time - I am sure under distance selling regulations I am entitled to a replacement pen rather than a third repair? You might imagine I am giving this pen some serious use? No - I look after the pen carefully and I use it to make diary notes at work. In my experience, my previous Waterman pens have all been excellent - but all have been 'lower end of the range' - I've never spent this amount on a pen before. If I decide to get another premium pen I will look at other manufacturers

This fountain pen is a work of art. It sits well in my hand and glides effortlessly across the paper there is no sign of any ink bleed from the nib. The weight of the pen is just right for me. My handwriting style has improved. It is expensive but you have to pay for quality. The nib size is wider than I would usually buy but I do not see this as a negative. The attention to detail in the construction of this pen is fantastic.

This is a very comfortable pen: it has a good weight, not light. Inked with Waterman Absolute Brown ink and used on ivory paper, looks lovely. The feedback from the medium nib on the paper is nice, just sufficient drag to encourage careful writing, and the combination writes slightly wet but it dries fast enough not to cause a problem. The line is nearer to a Broad in other pens. I have a Parker Sonnet (also a medium nib, gold) which writes drier yet gives less drag and the two pens provide a nice contrast in feel. I would like another and would have a Fine nib which would write Medium.

I have always used a fountain pen, the last one I had was a Cross. I decided to treat myself to a birthday come Christmas present which helped to justify paying over one hundred pounds for what is in reality just a pen. However this pen in my opinion has been worth every penny. I use it with brown ink, which just oozes class. It is very smooth to write with and makes one take pride even in writing quick notes. It is far smoother to write with than the Cross which tended to be a bit scratchy. Also the cartridges are bigger than the Cross ones, in essence a superior product. If you can see past the price, it is highly recommended, but I am a bit miffed that the price went down after I paid for it!
